As I searched for traditional French dishes I found myself stepping through the heavy curtain of the bistro “La Bourse et la Vie.” Located in Paris’s second arrondissement, this establishment immediately caught my attention with its display of classic bistro offerings, such as poireaux vinaigrette (leeks in vinaigrette) and pepper sauce, highlighted on the menu board outside.
The ambiance is warm and convivial, with tables placed very close to one another, understated lighting, and long curtains that block the view of the bustling street. It feels like stepping back in time into an authentic Parisian bistro.
As for the cuisine, traditional bistro classics take center stage, complemented by a chalkboard featuring daily specials made with seasonal ingredients. I chose the leek and truffle soup—velvety and perfectly balanced, with the truffle adding an earthy depth to the dish. For the main course, I went for the sweetbreads with chanterelle mushrooms, a simple yet expertly executed dish. Served in a pan and accompanied by perfectly crispy bistro-style fries, it was a meal that fully justified the restaurant’s place in Michelin selections.

Chef Denis Rose delivers simple yet high-quality pleasure, showcasing noble ingredients emblematic of Parisian bistros. La Bourse et la Vie is a perfect choice for fans of daily specials at lunchtime or business dinners in the evening. However, be sure to book in advance to secure your table.
