Near the Golden Mount Temple, Wat Saket, Thipsamai is recognized as one of the earliest and Bangkok’s best Pad Thai restaurants. It’s considered one of the most famous.
The Pad Thai is the most well-known dish in Thai cuisine. It consists of stir-fried rice noodles in a wok with eggs and meat or shrimp. It’s then topped with a sweet sauce made from tamarind and lime juice. Peanuts, spices to taste, lime juice, or even sugar are sprinkled over it all. The goal is to find the perfect balance.
Thipsamai began its journey in the 1960s as a simple street food stall. Their Pad Thai has a little secret; they stir-fry them in shrimp oil made from shrimp head butter. You’ll find various Pad Thai options, including vegetarian, shrimp, wrapped in an egg…
But coming at a price of around 150 THB, double the cost of a Pad Thai you’d find in street food, it won’t be the best Pad Thai for me. However, I can still say it’s worth the fork.
